Note that other public entities and offices funded by tax payers like the Hudson Housing Authority and certainly Common Council President De Pietro and Mayor Kamal are not this transparent or accessible.
Other entities don't post FAQs and proposals / resolutions / policies that require votes? Which entities and what documents do they not post? Be specific, vagueposting is so 20 years ago.
→ "that require votes" is a snuck premise that was not part of my original comment. Can you please use clear quotation marks when you quote others.
Of course the Hudson Common Council posts laws prior to a vote. And we as tax payers pay legal fees to the City attorney and employ the Clerk to make that happen.
➡️ My comment pointed out that HHA and Kamal's City government are "not this transparent or accessible".
📝 Just some evidence points to that end: - where is the mayor's FAQ on on the various ethical concerns within his office? - where is any public acknowledgement or explanation surrounding the PB / Mill Street planning board fiasco, resignations, quid pro quos etc. All the facts are flying around in private emails written to the Council by concerned residents and former City of Hudson employees or PB members but none of it is available to residents today. - why is most of HHA's business conducted in closed sessions? - where did all the rent payments go that should have paid for the maintenance of Bliss Tower? - FOIL/FOIA requests to the County are returned on time. FOIL requests to Kamal and Tom are so deficient that any lawsuit would lead a judge to penalize them for spoilage of evidence. - where are the publicly listed disclosure policies of elected officials who live in public housing and then vote on public housing and public expenditures.
Look no further than Rich's post below of Tom DePietro's message… the chief local law maker in the city who does not attend (or send regrets due to a scheduling conflict) a large public gathering about local laws... but then after the fact reprimands a council member for truthspeaking (that got a large applause) and summons him for a "talk".
Ask any principled former Council member and they will tell you this is standard Tom protocol.
🇺🇸 The Common Council and the Mayor and every employee of the City of Hudson works for the tax payers. In this country all public expenditures and decisions are fully public.
Is he your father? If not, why would he speak to you in such a condescending manner? Your comments were revelatory and necessary, and your passion for the city's well-being is to be praised.
There should be some sort of unique means of getting the useless and problem-making likes of Tom Depietro out of City Hall. A vote of NO CONFIDENCE from the council perhaps, instead of hoping the electorate doesn't make another poor judgment by reelecting him. Hudson government is looking a lot like our federal government -- an absolutely disgraceful, damaged and teetering mess run by a lunatic tyrant(s).
All that Tom needs is some potty-training. He's clearly a burbling fountain of great ideas and forward-thinking but seems to get easily side-tracked by a petulant council member who attends a meeting he was invited to. How weak an elected official do you need to be to do this!
Consider the stress he's under: this leader of man fearlessly guides Hudson into a future that couldn't be bleaker while also producing world-class journalism with co-host Selha Graham at WGXC.
Is there anything this Hudson Valley Machiavelli cannot do? Well, actually, he failed to push Friedman down the stairs. That's definitely a slight blemish on his otherwise impressive public record. He may need to hit the gym for a bit.

Hear, hear!
DeleteI received the following text message yesterday, shortly after this post, from Common Council President, Tom DePietro:
ReplyDelete"Just read your self-aggrandizing comments in today’s paper. We need to talk"
Is he your father? If not, why would he speak to you in such a condescending manner? Your comments were revelatory and necessary, and your passion for the city's well-being is to be praised.
Delete“Tom, we need to have a talk. Let’s schedule it for November 4, 2025…”
DeleteSincerely,
The constituency of Hudson: the actual boss of the Common Council
Ha! Yes!

ReplyDeleteHi Bill, just to be clear: you're advocating for the Common Council to override the will of the electorate?
Deleteif the Council chose not to remove Tom for the Friedman incident, not sure what would get them to do it now.
@Native Tom, I am sure it's all in jest.

I don't think it's in jest at all.
