On December 9, 2024, a survey crew discovered skeletal remains in a wooded area off Mill Street. Today, the Hudson Police Department issued a press release announcing that the remains have been identified.
The skeletal remains found in the City of Hudson were identified to be Robert J. Coons of Hudson, NY. The femur bone was sent to the New York State Forensic Investigation Center located in Albany, New York, on December 10th, 2024. On January 3rd, 2025, the Hudson Police Department received a report that stated that the DNA extracts were tested and the results matched Robert J. Coons. HPD contacted Coon’s family immediately and advised them of the above findings. In July of 2023, Robert Coons was reported missing to the Hudson Police Department. HPD Detectives led the missing person’s investigation and the investigation was still active and ongoing upon the recovery of the remains. Following the autopsy, Dr. Ng advised HPD that the cause of death is undetermined; however, his findings do not suggest that there were any signs of trauma or anything to indicate foul play.
The report confirms what many, including a commenter on Gossips, suspected might be the case.
