Something new has been added to the agenda for tonight's special meeting. Once again, the Galvan Initiatives Foundation has filed an Article 7 proceeding against the City of Hudson, protesting the assessments, for taxing purposes, of some of its many properties in Hudson. The resolution that will come before the Council tonight authorizes the mayor to spend up to $5,500 for appraisals on properties whose value is being contested.

Looking at the Columbia County Supreme Court docket online will show that Galvan is suing the city in at least four separate lawsuits: three related to the article 7 assessment proceedings mentioned above (for several properties each, and one suit requesting tax exemptions). And the fourth lawsuit is a third party suit relating to Galvan being sued by a tripping victim on their notorious sidewalk on S. 5th Street, between Warren and Cherry. That incident happened almost two years ago and the sidewalk has still not been repaired.
ReplyDeleteBut don’t forget that they saved Winter Walk. With friends like these…
Galvan was sued by a customer of the Yummy food truck parked along Galvan's atrocious sidewalk on 5th. Galvan then sued the food business. Apparently, it was the food truck's fault that woman tripped on Galvan's sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if Galvan makes any or all of that sidewalk hazard-free before these cases are adjudicated, that would not look too good in court, would it? "If it was the food truck's fault someone tripped on your sidewalk, Mr. Galvan, why did you repair your sidewalk? Just for the hell of it, because you had nothing better to do? Or were you trying to prevent future tripping victims, even during the winter when the food truck is not parked along your sidewalk?"
Of course, sometime in the past ten years our head Code Enforcment Officer could have made a sincere effort to force Galvan to fix that most dangerous of sidewalks. But why bother? They'd probably sue Craig Haigh for harassment and bad behavior.
