Designating petitions were due on Thursday, and the list of those who submitted petitions is available on the Columbia County Board of Elections website. The list includes all the candidates in Columbia County in the order the petitions were filed. To make things easier, Gossips presents the list of Hudson candidates only, reorganized by position sought.

At this point, it appears there are no contests in the Second Ward or in the Fifth Ward, but you never know.
Peter Spear, who has announced his candidacy for mayor, is not on the list because he is running on his own party line, Future Hudson. Independent nominating petitions are not due until May--May 20 to May 27.

Great to see so much competition in most of the offices and wards. It’s not too late for the second and fifth ward. Independent and write-in candidates are not that rare in Hudson and have been successful in the past.
ReplyDeleteClaire Cousin ran uncontested for 1st Ward supervisor and look how that turned out. Walking by 11 Warren for the next 50 years will be a constant reminder. Come on 5th Ward, you deserve to be represented by someone who will show up to meetings and not skip out on them like she did with many of the county supervisor meetings. You know, like the one where she missed the vote on 11 Warren Street.
When will this stop happening every two years, and who will be the force behind making it happen every four years?
ReplyDeleteUnion Jack - if this is a lot of competition then Cuba has a competitive market.
ReplyDeleteTrue it is better than before.... but man... the town should label/mark candidates who achieve office uncontested.
They often mistake the feat for support, when it is really proof that there are too many political offices.
Also... the fact that only 1 of 5 Supervisor seats are contested... they should collapse those 5 into 1, pay that person better, and then have a genuinely competitive race every 2 years (hopefully with more than 5 candidates).
ReplyDeleteThen you would avoid the Claire Cousins problem of Supervisors not going to meetings and then leaving mid-term.
I think the only thing worse for the 5th Ward than Claire Cousin getting elected and not showing up to the meetings is if Claire Cousin gets elected and shows up to the meetings.
