This month, Hudson is featured in Chronogram's "Community Pages." As part of this, Jamie Larson, who began his career as a journalist as a reporter for the Register-Star, writes about the current state of things in our river city: "Hudson Rewrites Its Future in Real Time." The following is the opening paragraph from that article:
Hudson is a city constantly reinventing itself by committee. The unending din of passionate socio-political argument has, over recent decades, reforged the 19th-century-whaling-port-turned-blue-collar-factory town, first into an antiques mecca at the turn of this century, then an arts hub, and now--a kind of mishmash, boho-chic, progressive playground, where commerce and culture blend into an overwhelming but vibrant tourism spectacle. All of it layered on top of a fiercely territorial and opinionated populace that seems to both love and hate the place in equal measure.
The rest of the article, along with fifty-two portraits of members of the Hudson community who showed up to have their pictures taken by David McIntyre, can be found here.
The photo of Lloyd along with its caption should be the entire article. It says everything there really is to say about this bizarre burg.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I disagree. I had to make a deal with David to let him misspell my name and show me smiling (#32). So I deserve to be in there. But more importantly, we snuck in the most important censored word in this quaint little community: school. A hopeful sign, I hope.
