The following news item, originally published on October 11, 1925, appeared today in the Times Union. It reports an incident that happened, late at night, at the Day Line dock (shown in the photograph below), now the location of the Hudson Power Boat Association.
Since the incident occurred ten years before the Rip Van Winkle Bridge was opened, the Athens police must have "sped to the scene" in boats. To help imagine the events of that night, remember that in 1925 the Hudson Police Department was headquartered at 327 Warren Street, then City Hall, now Hudson Hall. Today, the Hudson Hall offices are located in the space that was originally police headquarters.
