It has come to Gossips' attention that some people may have been misled by an item published by Hudson Common Sense in its satirical feature "The Shallot"--"The Shallot" being "the small-town cousin" of The Onion. The article, which appeared soon after the Columbia County Democratic Committee's endorsement meeting last Thursday, announced:

Indeed.
ReplyDeletePearls were clutched.... Zoom meetings were called... interns pulled out of summer internships.
Somehow labeling a piece "SATIRE" at the top, throughout the piece, and in the footer, was not enough. This after a decade of The Onion.
The lead image had art work: 'Hudson Wail for Mayor", "Didi Barrett our Queen" and "Retired Lives Matter".
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It just shows that Hudson is so far out there that the most extreme and over the top satire felt real.
So we decided to color code for the kids in the back:

"Separating Church and State: Separating opinion and satire. New colors clearly distinguish our core editorial voice from Guest Op-Eds, ensuring community Guest Op-Ed contributors aren't mistaken for our Editorial Board, and satire is not mistaken for editorials."
