A couple of weeks ago, the Housing Trust Fund Board, which is supposed to have from six to nine members, had only three: two members who serve ex officio--Common Council president Margaret Morris and Hudson Housing Authority executive director Jeffrey Dodson--and Usha Berlin, who has served on the HTF Board since its creation in 2022. At its meeting last Thursday, Hudson Community Development and Planning Agency (HCDPA) appointed three new members to the Housing Trust Fund Board:
- Tray Tepper, who operates the bagel shop Circles in The Spark of Hudson building at Fifth and Union streets
- Kelly Crimmins, the owner of Big Towel Spa, whose portable saunas used to winter at Oakdale Lake
- Serria McGriff, who is a senior counselor at Mental Health America
The candidates' letters of interest can be found here.
It was reported that Randall Martin, former First Ward supervisor and former member of the Planning Board, had expressed a desire to join the Housing Trust Fund Board but has not yet submitted a letter of interest.

ReplyDeleteIn the final section of the report four households were assisted with expenses. Two claimed "extremely high electric bills"
Legally, the City of Hudson and Michelle Tullo has to show "strict, objective criteria" for choosing one family over another.
But then she refuses to answer FOILs, so how does the public know.
Without a rational basis this is a 14th Amendment violation.
The report notes "General issue of National Grid prices tripling"
Is this not true for everyone in Hudson?
Who decides who gets help with their electrical bill?
Do you have to be friends with Michelle or Kamal?
Do you have to be a voting member of Working Families Party?
What if there is a disabled person, or a Chinese speaking citizen, or someone out of the loop and not part of the in-group at Kite's / Promise / Spark, and not friends with Tullo, Kamal Wolff, Zachos, do they just lose their housing?
Another reason why municipal government should not pick favorites, just do public works, public safety.
Knowing how to apply for these grants seems to be gatekept. I can’t find anywhere online on the city’s website, including the housing subsection on where one would apply for extra money to pay for repairs, power bill, or because I got less hours at my job. Only links to state programs like HEAP. But nothing for the local housing slush fund. That alone causes concern. Maybe the new members can push for transparency like they mention in their letters of intent.
DeleteMayor Ferris... finds the time to propose renaming city blocks against city law (politicking), does not find the time to figure out the Housing Justice Director situation in the Mayor's Office (managing).
