Last night at the informal Common Council meeting, Mayor Scalera reported that CSX had agreed to repair the Ferry Street bridge in time for the Flag Day parade. They will replace the rotted planking "to get through the weekend" and put plywood on the footbridge. CSX also said they would "try to put it in some capital plan."
According to Scalera, someone named "Mr. Ward" is the decision maker when it comes to capital projects--the person to get to if we want more than a "band-aid" solution to the problem. Senator Charles Schumer is expected to march in the Flag Day parade, and Scalera is hoping to get Schumer to "jump on the bridge" to test its stablility for himself and use his influence to help achieve a satisfactory and lasting solution to the problems of the bridge.
