We are now a full week into September. As the days grow cooler and shorter, here is what's happening.
- On Monday, September 8, the Hudson Industrial Development Agency (IDA) holds at special meeting at 9:00 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) requested by Pennrose for the adaptive reuse of the former John L. Edwards school building as affordable apartments for seniors. The IDA now has the financial review of the project done by BJH Advisors, so that information will definitely be a topic of discussion. The goal is to frame an acceptable PILOT agreement before September 11, which is the deadline for submitting applications for NYS HCR funding. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place at 1 City Centre, Suite 301, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
- At 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, the Common Council holds its monthly informal meeting. Among the items on the agenda for the meeting is a resolution to name a portion of South Front Street, from the Ferry Street Bridge to the train station, "Charlie's Way," to honor the late Charles Butterworth, who was DPW Superintendent in Hudson from 1969 to 2006 and, to quote the resolution, "played an integral role in the revitalization, development and beautification of the waterfront area and of the Amtrak Station." The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at City Hall and on Microsoft Teams. Click here for the link to join the meeting remotely.

- On Tuesday, September 9, the Planning Board meets at 6:30 p.m. The agenda for the meeting includes the hotel proposed for 10-12 Warren Street, Kite Nest's public education center proposed for 59 North Front Street, the space at 724-726 Columbia Street being renovated for The Foundry, and a proposal to keep chickens in a backyard on Storm Avenue. Colarusso also appears on the agenda, but that may be an oversight. The Planning Board has scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday, September 23, to take up the review of Colarusso's application for a conditional use permit for its dock operations. The meeting this Tuesday takes place in person only at City Hall. It will also be livestreamed on YouTube. Click here to find the link to view the meeting remotely.
- On Wednesday, September 10, the Hudson Industrial Development Agency (IDA) holds another special meeting at 9:30 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to vote on whatever PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement is worked out for the redevelopment of the former John L. Edwards school building. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at 1 City Centre, Suite 301, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
- On Friday, September 12, the Historic Preservation Commission meets at 10:00 a.m. The meeting includes a public hearing on the proposal to replace the slate roof on the Galvan Armory with some faux slate product. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at City Hall and on Microsoft Teams. Click here for the link to join the meeting remotely.
- On Saturday, September 13, the Hudson Festival Orchestra presents the fourth annual Hudson in Concert: A Community Celebration from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Henry Hudson Riverfront Park. This year's concert explores vibrant dance rhythms from Spain, Ukraine, the American South, Argentina, and more, performed by the 55-piece orchestra. Grammy-award winning clarinetist Kinan Azmeh returns to perform his Clarinet Concerto (released by the London Philharmonic in May). For more information about the concert, click here.

Presumably, soon there will be at least one new sign for the renamed short portion of Front Street. Meanwhile, the only signs on or near the new bridge are a pair of reminders for drivers to keep right as they drive over it. Welcome to Hudson and the Hudson River!
