Happy to Be Mistaken

A reader emailed me this morning, suggesting that current appearances might be deceiving when it comes to the fenestration of the new house going up at 215 Union Street.

The reader pointed out that sheathing is typically applied in whole 4-by-8-foot sheets, to save time and provide a more solid covering, and in the process, the sheathing often covers all or part of window and door openings. Once in place, the sheathing can be cut to reveal the entire opening. He suggested that discovering the true height of the windows required further investigation, and he was right.

A return visit to the house, with camera adjusted to zoom in through the window openings, discovered that the structural openings inside are considerably higher than the openings in the sheathing.

  2. Carol...I think you need to lighten up on Eric Galloway

  3. Since Carole is practically the only person reporting and looking critically at Eric Galloway/ Galvan, I hope she stays on the case (of course she will). With half of the town bought off and the other half looking to be bought off, we are lucky to have Carole calling it like she sees it.

    1. Carol does a great job!

The "bait and switch" tone of the discourse is what I have a problem with. I didn't care for her article or her comparisons. A lot of what I read from the article and from the replies was based on ..."a little bit of knowledge"...need I say more.

I don't like to see anyone bullied and I know the town consensus seems to think EG is the anti Christ, its no wonder he never makes public appearances.

He's made some mistakes and he's done some very decent projects and I speak as a designer. He's mortal and he represents change since he controls some of the pieces on the board. Give some credit once in a while instead of treating him like a pinata.

I'm fully in favor of having a good critical appraisal of anything anyone does ... the tone should be more civilly balanced and factual.

  4. Leonardo, Carole is the only voice and journalist who is willing to take on the reality of Galvan. This is no easy task. Once, when she shared a photo of them (sourced from a charity's website), they had their lawyers threaten her to pull down their picture. These two mercurial men are up to no good and Carole is trying to keep it straight. Keep up the GREAT work Carole.

  6. Leonardo, if Galloway was just a regular homeowner, your "lighten up" comment would make sense. But he is, by virtue of his many real estate and philanthropic deals, many of which are with public entities, a public figure. As a journalist, I find it rather odd that no reporter (to my knowledge) has done a lengthy interview with Galloway. Carole's reporting is perfectly appropriate to the outsize influence Galloway has exercised in Hudson. And I applaud her efforts. But it certainly would help if the public, a great deal of whose money is being spent on Galloway projects, knew who he was and what he thought he is doing in and for Hudson. cheers,

    1. Peter... Carol is not immune to criticism ..."Carol does a great job".

EG has become part of the dysfunctional Hudson family. He's entitled to be as eccentric as everyone else here.

  7. if my eccentric next door neighbor didn't mow his lawn for ten years and maintained his property as an eyesore for over ten years he'd be getting a punch in the nose not just a little bad press.

  8. If my next door neighbor evicted all the tenants and partially boarded up the building and left it that way for a decade eccentric is not how I would describe him
