Gossips does not normally publish press releases, but an exception is being made in this case. The following press release was distributed on Wednesday by Housing Resources of Columbia County. Gossips received it, indirectly, late on Thursday and publishes it now word for word.

HOUSING RESOURCES AND GALVAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCE COLLABORATION

HUDSON, NY, JUNE 25, 2014--Housing Resources of Columbia County, Inc., and Galvan Foundation announce their agreement to collaborate in the provision of affordable housing in the City of Hudson and Columbia County. The Housing Resources and Galvan collaboration strengthens their ability to advance shared purposes of preserving, maintaining, and increasing the supply of affordable housing in the community.

As an initial measure, Galvan representatives, including T. Eric Galloway and Henry van Ameringen, joined the Housing Resources board of directors. Mr. van Ameringen stated, "The collaboration is an opportunity to ensure Housing Resources remains a formidable provider of affordable housing at a time when low and middle income wage earners, and seniors are increasingly challenged by higher rents and fewer housing options. Stable housing is key. It is important for us to do more for this population." Mr. David Pearce, Chairman of the Board of Housing Resources said, "The board looks forward to working with Mr. Galloway and Mr. Ameringen [sic]. They will provide considerable expertise and support to Housing Resources' mission of preserving and maintaining decent, safe and affordable housing in Columbia County. In my opinion, the people of the City of Hudson and Columbia County will be well served by the collaboration of these two organizations."

I find it absolutely amazing that Galvan is interested in affordable housing in Hudson! It is because of his “warehousing” so many of the 50 buildings that he owns in Hudson, that there is so little affordable housing available in town. He has removed tenants or left buildings empty for most of the buildings he owns. There would be at least another 100 apartments available! This clever “warehousing” technique makes the rental prices soar and creates a housing shortage. Just the opposite of how he likes to be perceived. He certainly makes is extremely difficult for low or modest income people to find a place to live in Hudson.

Exactly what I was going to say Carrie.
How is it that the same person that created a housing shortage can then receive public funds to "solve" the housing shortage. I don't understand how this can be legal.

  5. Couldnt agree more with Carrie. I drive by Housing Resources row of houses on North Fifth Street between Columbia and State yesterday and noticed how downgraded they looked from the time Housing Resources first bought them and fixed them up. I had the feeling of going back aboutn15 - 20 years when I walked in the Neighborhood Watch started by Linda and Claudia, with Judy Meyer, Etc. It was a bax neighborhood then, but by individual perserverence it made great strides forward and the Housing Resources fixed up that rownof early buildings onlynto slide backwards. I dont see the new combination helping anything. It's individuals who make a difference not people using grants and hording properties. Woe Hudson

  7. With Galloway and Van Amerigen now on the board of Housing Resources there will be scant day light between these two entities. My hunch is that Housing Resources is going to have to work hard to keep its independence.
