The Latest on the Escarpment
Gossips just learned from Mayor Tiffany Martin Hamilton that the meeting with the Department of Transportation and Amtrak regarding the stabilization of the escarpment below Promenade Hill and Hudson Terrace will take place on Tuesday, September 26, at 5:30 p.m., in Council Chambers at City Hall.
Almost a month has passed since Mayor Hamilton met with senior representatives of the Department of Transportation, the Department of State, the Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, and Scenic Hudson to discuss the stabilization project that was originally intended ultimately to cover the entire rock face with shotcrete, a form of concrete that is sprayed into the rock. Some of the rock below Hudson Terrace was already sprayed with the substance before a stop-work order issued on July 28 was finally enforced on August 5.
After the meeting about the project, which took place on August 16, Hamilton reported: "There will be a public meeting held . . . with all agencies in attendance to give the community the opportunity to learn more about proposed alternatives for the project." The meeting scheduled for September 26 is that meeting.
