More Crosswalks

Yesterday, DPW painted crosswalks at Second and State streets, another intersection often mentioned by Ed Cross in his appeal for crosswalks in his neighborhood.

Some might argue these crosswalks and the ones farther up State Street at Third would not have been painted were it not for an act of civil disobedience.

It's also possible that, in its schedule of work, interrupted by persistent rain and periodic emergencies, DPW just got around to painting the crosswalks at these intersections this week.

  1. Can someone please explain "Some might argue these crosswalks and the ones farther up State Street at Third would not have been painted were it not for an act of civil disobedience." It's a weird thing to write without an explanation!

    1. You obviously haven't been following this story, Marcel ARJ. See the September 27 post "Guerrilla Zebra Stripes" and the comment on the October 3 post "Behold the Crosswalks."

  2. Carole,

I thought it would be useful to recall that there have never been crosswalks or stop lines at 3rd & State for the 10 years I have lived on Robinson.

This would seem to indicate that it’s extremely unlikely that it was somewhere on a schedule of intersections to receive this treatment.

You are free to believe that, of course, because there is no public record of how these decisions get made.

The City of Hudson has no formal public process for receiving, evaluating and acting on resident input.

A resident like Ed Cross can be known to have appealed to the City over many years for the safety that crosswalks bring, yet receive no satisfaction nor explanation or any sort of due diligence or oversight from the City of Hudson.

I think it would be great if we didn’t have to use our imagination.
