Mayor-Elect Announces Appointments

On Friday, Mayor-Elect Kamal Johnson announced on his Facebook page his "first round of appointments." Tracy Delaney, who has been the City Clerk since 2009, was reappointed, and Peter Bujanow, who was originally appointed by Mayor Tiffany Martin, will continue as Commissioner of Public Works. As Gossips has already reported, Third Ward supervisor Michael Chameides will be Johnson's mayoral aide.

Johnson also appointed a Police Commissioner: Peter Volkmann. Although it may seem bizarre for the Chief of Police from the Village of Chatham to serve as the Police Commissioner for the City of Hudson, his appointment should come as no surprise. In the community protest that followed the raid conducted by the Shared Services Response Team on June 5, 2018, which she characterized as a "militarized raid," Linda Mussmann called for a Common Council resolution to require the Hudson Police Department to opt out of the Shared Services Response Team (made up of officers from the sheriff's departments of Columbia and Greene counties and the HPD) and also made it known that Volkmann was her preference to serve as Police Commissioner in Hudson.

  2. I get it you have to criticize every decision I make. At least tell the entire story Peter Volkmann has done amazing things in his community and has programs that are replicated across the capital region. The decisions I make are my decisions great pic of me and Linda by the way I see you are still trying to spin that narrative. I would love to sit down and have tea or coffee with you hear your goals for the city. ~ Your Mayor-Elect Kamal Johnson

  3. Is there no further word on Mussman's first choice for City Corporate Counsel, the duplicitous Cheryl Roberts?

  4. This comment from JacksonClark270 seems to have been appended to the wrong post; hence I repeat it here:

Linda has always wanted to be the mayor of Hudson but could never get elected. One way or another she has finally accomplished her goal

  5. Until the city attorney is named, I will wait to put the kittle on the boil . No point in having a LUKE WARM chat.

  6. Carole, your obsession with Linda Mussmann is starting to get embarrassing. Why not just ask her on a date, already. SMFH

    1. In Gossips' defense, the author knows far more on the subject than you do, and surely more than the Mayor-elect too (although I truly hope he's learning what a dual liability he's risking with Ms. Mussman and Ms. Roberts).

For example, more than a decade ago, and surely long before your arrival here, it was Supervisor Mussman's clandestine collaboration with St. Lawrence Cement which initiated a new industrial plan for the South Bay. Later, when she publicly announced the plan for an immense conveyor system across the bay, her actions and her promotion of the plan sparked widespread outrage and protest. The proposal was soon shut down.

Such were the machinations of Ms. Mussman as Chairman of the Waterfront Advisory Steering Committee.

Fast forward to today and what few people realize, and what you certainly have no knowledge about, is that the footprint of that same 2007 plan is knowingly preserved in the new owner's site plan which is currently before the Planning Board.

Leaving aside whether or not the Planning Board should approve the 2007 footprint as a hidden component of the more overt proposal, that earlier project which was secretly concocted by Ms. Mussman and the cement company is knowingly concealed in a plan which fails to identify its own terms and symbols (an old but effective site plan trick).

The fact that Gossips understands these things and that you can't possibly know anything about them is the proper context in which readers with any memory at all understand your snarky comment.

    2. Good to see that Carole has a fan base. Even if it's from a group of self-entitled transplants who seem to think that because they came in the 90s, they own Hudson. Then call everyone else an outsider. Good laugh for us native Hudson folk. Still celebrating our native Hudson mayor-elect.

    3. Glad to know you're a native, because I'm also wearied of know-it-all transplants.

Good to know we're also both supporters of our Mayor-elect Johnson, which is precisely why I'm cautioning him above.

Politics as "the art of the possible" has everything to do with managing perceptions and expectations. So even if it's Cheryl Roberts' other champion, Mr. Kanaga, who's pushing her on the Johnson administration, the general perception can only be - indeed, must be - that she's Supervisor Mussman's choice foremost.

In that same spirit I'm asking why Ms. Mussman's 2007 industrial plan for the South Bay is hidden in the current owner's site plan now before the Planning Board? (It would be less troubling were it openly proposed, but the footprint's deliberate concealment epitomizes its origins in the earlier and infamous actions of Ms. Mussman.)

Someday, perhaps sooner than later, Mayor Kamal Johnson may have to own the poor judgements of the people around him, but at the moment he doesn’t even know about these things and neither do you.

My friendly advice to Kamal is to start managing perceptions by listening to a wider range of opinions. Right now it appears that Ms. Mussman is calling the shots EVEN IF SHE ISN'T. (Get it?)

At any rate, these are the perceptions which Gossips was rightly characterizing. For the good of all, the new administration might learn from it.

    4. Wow, you really are arrogant AF! Assuming that Kamal 'doesn't even know about these things.' And you and Carole do? Hilarious. You should sign up for Open Mic at Helsinki! Clearly you don't know Kamal. Not like those of us who grew up with him. But sure, go ahead and underestimate him. That'll be fun ...

    1. And yet it's you, "man" bites dog along with Carole and unheimlich (bescheuert) who are obsessing and discussing this. Oh, and a Seinfeld reference? Seriously? Time for some new material, Tratschtante!

    2. John E., your comments don't rise above ad hominem. You can do better. Try actual argumentation.

    3. Throw around all the Latin phrases you like, but your feeble "arguments" are transparent, dear. Psychology 101 -- projection. When you lack reason, simply accuse the other of the same. But keep going here unheimlich (protzig). You only validate your obsession here. Weiter ...

    4. Not having engaged a single idea in this thread - not one - your character is sufficiently exposed and our instructive chat draws to a close.

My advice to you is to alter your style (and also change your handle!) as soon as possible.

    5. Thanks for the unsolicited advice. You've got tenacity. In the spirit of the season, let's focus that energy more on Umoja and Ujima. Hudson certainly could benefit from more unity and a community that works together. That'll lead to Ujamaa, so we can all benefit together. K hasn't even taken office yet and you've got the knives out already. Why not use them to carve your turkey instead. Let's embrace the spirit of Kwanzaa so we can kick off 2020 in a good way. Amani to you brother.

    6. I have only goodwill for Kamal, which is why he needs to be warned.

You, on the other hand, strike me as a hater, and a twister of your critic's actual intentions.

    7. The sharp knife out already, yet you have only good will for Kamal. Um, yeah, sure. Attack him before he even takes office. Only good will! Why give him a chance? Plus you and "man" bites dog share this arrogance of how you know better than Kamal and the vast majority who elected him. Because Kamal is new to the scene and doesn't understand Hudson like you do. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up. I look forward to your open mic set at Helsinki on Tuesday. ;)

  8. Let me make myself clear.I have Hudson best interest in mind,so looking back at MUSSMANNS & ROBERTS track record leads me to believe that they will make some more errors in public policy.. Best thing The Mayor Elect can do during his tenure is to ostracize Linda & Co because he will never be seen to make his own decision .

    1. Kamal won by listening to Hudson rather than ostracizing people. Despite the many and often inexplicable attacks Carole has made on Kamal, he invites her to have coffee or tea. Yet you rave that he should start cutting off people and listen to you instead because you "have Hudson best interest in mind." Hahahahaha. Are you getting advise from Melania now? #BeBest!

  9. This to Carol ... in the interest of transparent dialogue...please consider changing your policy of allowing people to post ... ANONYMOUSLY. Commenters should take some pride in what they say and be known publicly.

    1. Great point Signore Sideri! It's not like we can look up "Man Bites Dog" in the Hudson Year Book. Not like you can look up John E. Mind you, researching the people of Hudson is not as interesting as the architecture ... Unheimlich? I'd guess (s)he went to Hawthorne Valley, given the German. Oh wait, you aren't from Hudson, are you?

  10. I'm actually going to throw my two cents in and say that if trolling threads continue, Carile may see value in updating her posting policy to verify and publish identities. Some people legitimately need to anonymize themselves (we do live in a small town and some earnestly held points of view or shared experiences could, say, jeopardize a poster's job if they work in city government), but masked trolls who appear out of thin air aren't adding anything of value to the discussion with poorly-structured, salacious taunts.

  11. Who does this ANONYMOUS policy serve? What's the logic behind it? Yes this is a small town, all the more reason names should be known. The anonymous are casting aspersions on real people.

    1. Speaking for myself, I'm apt to say to report things which might anger some people. In the past this has resulted in violence against me.

Now that mightn't occur to someone less apt to make waves, but then what else mightn't occur to them?

Your own history of outing otherwise anonymous posters at Gossips exposes your targets to potential threats (the kinds of threats which involve the HPD).

Additionally, wittingly or not, your actions serve to suppress those with whom you disagree. Moreover, I've pointed out past instances of ad hominem so it's reasonable for me to connect your interest in people's identities with alternate means to augment your arguments.

In the spirit of this thread I'll finally say what I should have said a long time ago - that I resent intensely your seeming mission to reveal my own identity in these threads. It's unseemly and I'm asking you, please, to never do it again.

    1. Speaking as a John, using a common first name as a handle makes you just as anonymous as using a fictitious handle, even when you put an initial after it. (I mean you could try something more pedestrian than John. 'Chris' comes to mind. Something to ponder?) Anyhoo, your actual identity should at least be suitably verified to the blogger hosting the comment board.
