Guidance in a Local Legend

I've lived in Hudson now for close to twenty-seven years, with a view of the Catskill Mountains from my back windows, but on the several occasions when someone has asked me to point out the silhouette of the sleeping Rip Van Winkle in the contours of the mountains against the sky, I have been unable to do so. For those similarly challenged, I offer this.

Thanks to Bruce Mitchinson for posting this on Facebook for the edification of us all

  1. The profile is more pronounced from the other side of the mountains (excuse me, "mountains").

  2. nearly as silly as seeing moby dick in mt greylock- melville dedicated pierre to the mountain, and moby dick to his neighbor hawthorne. its a fabrication, a gimmicky come-on for those touring arrowhead.

i prefer, perhaps anachronistically, the blue "mountains". they are certainly appreciable as such without some dopey guide, and relate themselves much better to our neighboring "ranges".

    1. It may be silly to you but this lore has been handed down for many years. Silly, maybe, but lighten up, it just adds to the interest of the beautiful view!
