News of COVID and Flu

A press release received today from Matt Murell, chair of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors, reported no major changes in rate of COVID-19 and flu cases. The following is quoted from the press release:
The Columbia County Department of Health has recorded 76 new cases [of COVID-19] as of this morning, reported DOH Director Victoria McGahan. In comparison, as of this time last week there were 99 new cases. There are currently 18 hospitalized county residents, with no one on a ventilator. The hospitalization number continues to run high, said Director McGahan. There has been another COVID-19 related death in community, bringing to 173 since the beginning of the pandemic. Director McGahan noted that the NYS DOH biweekly flu report shows that as of January 28, there are between 5-10 cases of the flu per 100,000 population in the county, which she deemed “reasonable for this time of year.”

  1. The press release (which I've read) is very misleading. No where in the release does it mention a time frame related to the "76 new cases". Was it one day, a week, a month???

    1. Because the CCDOH is now issuing weekly reports, I think we can assume that the 76 new cases is since Monday, February 6.
