News of the Ferry Street Bridge

It's been seven years since Mayor Tiffany Martin announced that funds had been secured to rebuild the Ferry Street Bridge, a bridge that has been closed for safety reasons since October 2014. When Gossips last reported on the status of the bridge in November 2022, there was an impasse between National Grid and Amtrak. A new utility pole and a new gas main needed to be installed on Amtrak property, which required the consent of Amtrak.

Last night, in his report to the Common Council at its informal meeting, DPW superintendent Rob Perry said the review and approval by Amtrak had been completed, and now it was up to National Grid to carry out the work. Perry, who has for months been explaining the various causes for delay in the bridge project, told the Council,  "Hopefully next month we'll have an entirely different conversation."
