Today is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, and also World Animal Day. Yesterday, Gossips announced that the Blessing of the Animals, which takes place every year at Christ Church Episcopal on the Saturday nearest the Feast Day of St. Francis, will not be happening this year. I learned today, however, that the companion animals of Hudson need not go unblessed this year. On Saturday, October 7, at noon, Father Anthony Barratt will be blessing the animals at St. Mary's Catholic Church, at the corner of East Allen and East Court streets.
