I shamelessly appropriated this bit of clip art, meant for an invitation to a Sweet Sixteen party, to announce that today marks the sixteenth anniversary of The Gossips of Rivertown. On January 20, 2010, Gossips published its very first post. Today, 14,232 posts (and 34,487 comments) later, Hudson's very own news blog is still going strong.
Some may take issue with the use of the word awesome to describe Gossips, preferring instead such words as rancorous or scurrilous, but to quote one Gossips reader, "Love it or hate it, we all read it." For sixteen years, Gossips has been diligently reporting the news, recounting Hudson history, and sharing occasional gossip. In so doing, it has gained a loyal following and inspired a new generation of commentary and editorializing about Hudson.
Today, as I do every year on Gossips' anniversary, I gratefully acknowledge all the readers whose interest and loyalty have made Gossips a mainstay of Hudson and offer my profound thanks to the generous Gossips supporters and advertisers whose monetary contributions help keep Gossips afloat. Today, too, I invite readers to celebrate sixteen years of Gossips' particular brand of hyperlocal reporting by joining the readers who have already shown their support for The Gossips of Rivertown in 2026.
For those who read Gossips on a computer, the process is simple. Just click the "Donate" button near the top of the right column. For those who read Gossips on their phones, the process is a bit more complicated. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and touch "View web version." Then find the "Donate" button in the right column.
Your support--in any amount--will be gratefully acknowledged and will ensure the continuation of Gossips for yet another year.
