Last month, the church building at 448 Warren Street was the subject of a Facebook post by The Hudson Valley Explorer. This month, there is different news of the building.
As Gossips has reported in the past, the building was on the City's foreclosure list for unpaid property taxes. When last reported, the amount was $359,763.89. At the Common Council Finance Committee meeting tonight, city treasurer Heather Campbell reported that last week the amount owed in back taxes and penalties was paid full and in cash.

Worth asking what happens next with 448 Warren.
This building, empty for now, may very likely pay the City of Hudson more in annual property taxes than the proposed ~250-unit Bliss 2.0 redevelopment will pay in a year once it is built and occupied.
One is assessed on the roll. The other pays by agreement. One has zero residents vs. ~500 residents.
We would like to see the two annual figures side by side.

Isn't this the one owned by the elderly artist? That must have been a pleasant surprise for Hudson to see this significant structure come back from the brink. Unless there is something I am missing, this seems like a win win.
ReplyDeletePaying the back taxes shows an interest in not having the property foreclosed on, but it is not necessarily an indication that the restoration of the building, which was started in 2014 and apparently abandoned in 2016, will resume, or that the building will be anything other than, as The Hudson Valley Explorer called it, showing an image of pigeons perched in the opening of a missing window, "just one big birdhouse."
