About That Clock

In July, Gossips reported about the plan to repair the clock in the pediment at Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School, the historic school building constructed in 1937 as a WPA (Works Progress Administration) project during the Great Depression.

Ten days ago, Gossips reported that the clock was working again.

Today, the news of the clock's resumed functioning was reported on the Hudson City School District website: "MCSES Clock Tower Restored." According to HCSD's account, the clock started working again on August 12, twenty-three days before Gossips happened to notice it was telling the correct time and a month and two days before HCSD announced it to the community. The story on the HCSD website tells how the repair, which was a gift from longtime HCSD community member Michael K. Sullivan, came about.
