How Does HCSD Compare? Part 6

Today, the Albany Business Review resumes the rollout of rankings from its 2015 Schools Report. Now we're getting into categories where the Hudson City School District ranks higher: salaries. First is superintendents' salaries. Maria Suttmeier's base salary as HCSD superintendent, which for 2015-2016 is budgeted to be $154,452, with $56,194 in benefits, for a total of $210,646, puts HCSD at 35 out of a total of 91.

There doesn't seem to be a strong correlation between the superintendent's salary and the district's overall quality. Although the highest paid superintendent heads up one of the best performing school districts (Shenendehowa Central), the superintendents of the two school districts at the bottom of the ranking--Schenectady City (83) and Albany City (84)--are two of the highest paid, ranking 5 and 3 respectively.
