Former Register-Star reporter Tom Casey died early Friday morning in a car crash. His former colleague at the newspaper, William Shannon reported the news yesterday on his blog, Hudson River Zeitgeist: "The Loss of Tom Casey."
What a loss. This man was so decent, not to mention highly professional and talented.
We would reminisce about Long Island, but also compare memories and notes on specific waterfront issues of which there are many. Tom was keenly interested in Furgary.
Because the Register-Star has a new Publisher and Managing Editor since Tom's day, I hope they'll remind us about this good man even if it still strikes a sore note. (His principled protest at the Register-Star did become national news, but I believe those days are behind the R-S.)

What a good person and what sad news. RIP Tom.
