Word on the Wall

When Ronald Reagan adjured Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall," referring, of course, to the Berlin Wall, it was a couple of years before that actually happened, so when a week or so ago Bill Hallenbeck allegedly ordered someone to "power-wash that wall," referring to the retaining wall at Promenande Hill that had been covered with white primer, one wondered how long it would take for that deed to be done.

As it turns out, Hallenbeck either never said that or changed his mind, because the word is now that Alderman Tiffany Garriga (Second Ward) will be asking the Common Council to pass a resolution authorizing the painting of a mural on the retaining wall and will also be seeking a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Commission for the project.

  1. As of yesterday, the sprinklers were on and kids were enjoying them. The white wall remains unchanged.
