It was a stupendous event. My congrats to Tamara (my neighbor) and Peter Frank (former adversary on Fair and Equal) getting this going, and special thanks to Chuck Marshall for delivering the buckets of Stewarts ice cream, a perfect beachfront delicacy on the gorgeous (hot) day.... Having spent many hours with my son at Oakdale, it was great to feel the sand underfoot and see the kids frolicking in the water.... Carole, it would be nice see some of the graphics set up on easels in the boat house.... And I urge folks to visit https://www.friendsofoakdalelake.com/ Go Oakdale.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Chuck Marshall, the land development and permitting coordinator for Stewart's Shops, who's been trying for more than a year to get Hudson to change its zoning to accommodate the Stewart's corporate plan to enlarge Store #209 (that's the one at Green Street and Fairview Avenue), should be the one delivering the ice cream to a community picnic.
DeleteAs he should be. Good for him. Most of the folks who work at Stewarts have probably used Oakdale or their kids have. Among the folks I hang out with (most of them anyway) Stewarts has always been a good community partner.
DeleteFriends of Oakdale Lake states that there are 75 parking spaces at the lake. Are that many parking spaces really necessary? A fact to consider in thinking about how the park can be improved.
ReplyDeleteThis is something the Hudson Valley Initiative will certainly look into! I've noticed it too--so much asphalt--and mostly, it's just so wonderful to hear community input already. I really think this is going to be a great and lively conversation.
DeleteWhy is that interesting that Mr. Marshall delivered the ice cream Carole? If he HADN'T, he would have been criticized and chastised.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting is that had a smaller ice cream maker contributed the ice cream, you would have made a point of naming them and their product specifically, as opposed to the generic description "ice cream".
It seems that no matter what Mr. Marshall does, it's simply not right, not enough, not good enough, or with the right intent.
Since The Gossips of Rivertown is now able to steer just about any community conversation, as well as steer the opinion, since Parry Teasdale has abandoned covering Hudson, and the Register Star simply runs obituaries, I'm wondering why specifically you continue to target Stewart's and Scali's, the jobs they provide and the tax monies they pay.
Susan
Carole it saddens me you would make a comment about me personally when you have denied mulitple invitations to gather for coffee or lunch. And, as you are aware I was in town for the Planning Board meeting at 6. I showed just before 4:00 up to be outmatched by the two incredibly capable volunteers who went the extra step to coordinate matching outfits including bow ties and hats. To avoid the asserted inpropriety I left a half hour into the event because there were plenty of capable hands and I didn’t want to be perceived as am I here now.
ReplyDeleteIf 15 gallons of ice cream went to waste because nobody was there to scoop what would the post have read?
You may not like Stewart’s because we’re a corporation or because we’re trying to expand and you don’t agree with the manner but we’re still part of the community and will continue to support opportunities like this.
And personally I enjoy watching our Ice cream bring people, together; I am after all still human....
Hey gossips.....could you get a little love
