News of the Lighthouse

Today, more than twenty-four hours after the damage was discovered and twenty hours after it was reported on Gossips, the Register-Star was an article about the incident of a still unknown vessel colliding with the historic lighthouse: "Police: Vessel hits, damages Hudson-Athens Lighthouse."

  1. Throwback Thursdays:

Remember when Hudson Mayor Kamal was very quick to take credit for the Athens' mayor's work to get a grant with the the United States Army Corps of Engineers to save the lighthouse and expand its footprint.

Kamal's comment in Gossips at the time: "I wasn't left out lol I was announced by the Senators. They asked me to come up front but I did not want to interrupt."

Schumer and the usual political suspects were in attendance and good vibes reigned.

    Now when something went sideways...

    Where is the mayor now?

We have to rely on Gossips, trying to connect the dots with community input, to figure out what happened to Hudson's most iconic structure.

A competent mayor would have immediately tried to figure out what happened, liaised with the Athens mayor (who he knows so very well from the previous grant process), whichever authority oversees the river/estuary (likely the surrounding county Sheriffs), the lighthouse 501c3, HFD and DPW, and then sent an email or made a quick video giving everyone a status update... clear next steps... and how concerned residents could help.

If a barge operator was at fault... which one... why.. can the City of the Athens lighthouse entity take a civil action to recover funds for repairs. Will this delay the United States Army Corps of Engineers build out?

Will we ever know... will this just be another Kamal black hole where gossip meanders through the City and nothing will be conclusive or resolved.

Can we send Kamal to summer school for mayors to learn more about Public Relations & Communications?

I am sure the International City/County Management Association offers something worthwhile.
