How many TONS of salt will DPW have to spread on our streets? How much diesel fuel will be burned to clear the streets? How much in overtime will DPW workers accrue? How much money will this storm cost the city? (The State does offer to reimburse municipalities for some costs related to snow removal every year, and our DPW does take advantage of this.) The thing that would really be difficult (and expensive) to deal with is a busted water main or two on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. We'd be lucky if no mains busted over the next several days of single digit temps.
If we get anywhere near the forecast amount, I am not sure what option the city has other than spending money triaging this storm.
Between Hudson and Greenport, I predict they'll be doing just fine and at least keep the streets and roads clear enough that people can drive to a grocery store. It's gonna be cold but we've seen similar temperatures, or worse, in the past two years.
