Ubiquitous Bingo
When people talk about the senior center proposed for Hudson, it is often pointed out that there is currently no programming for seniors except Bingo. I was reminded of that recently while watching the British sitcom Keeping Up Appearances on DVD. In an episode entitled "Problems with Relatives," Hyacinth's father, a geriatric Lothario suffering from dementia, goes missing, and his daughters (Hyacinth and Daisy) are convinced that he has run off to marry "some unscrupulous woman" he met the previous night at the Senior Citizens' Club. When informed of the situation, Richard, Hyacinth's long-suffering husband, asks, "Should he be proposing at the Senior Citizens’ Club? I thought all they did was play Bingo."
