Learn About the Shakers
For 160 years, from 1787 to 1947, the Shakers at Mount Lebanon--right here in Columbia County--were the largest utopian society in America. The Shakers have been described as "America's earliest and most notable utopian, vegetarian, feminist, millenialist, pacifist, communist, capitalist, herbalist, and spiritualist modernists."
This evening from 5 to 7, you can learn more about the Shakers and Mount Lebanon and celebrate the publication, by Skira Rizzoli, of The Shakers: From Mount Lebanon to the World at Jeff Bailey Gallery, 127 Warren Street.
