A House Built Before There Was Greenport

A couple of weeks ago, Gossips reported that the Joab Center House, also known as the "Turtle House," was for sale. Yesterday, an article about the house and its history appeared in Brownstoner: "The Quirky, Federal-Style 'Old Turtle House' of Greenport Can Be Yours for $450K."

  1. Let's hope someone acquires it who can actually carry out the needed work. At one point the whole portico was ready to collapse. It's a very handsome house with a rich history and deserves better.

  2. Are the columns truly from old whaling ship masts?

The interior is magical, though the surrounding neighborhood is awfully drab.
