Yesterday, a vigilant Gossips reader raised the alarm about another hole in the building, on the west side, at ground level, and provided this picture.
The reader who raised the alarm found evidence that caused him to suspect someone was using the opening to gain access to the building and shelter there.
Joey and I went down to the waterfront this morning and found a hole definitely big enough for a human to wriggle through.
This hole makes the building vulnerable to more than just the elements.

If someone has to break into an abandoned building to get shelter from the elements, I'm more concerned about addressing the person's situation than the building's.
ReplyDeleteWhy cant the powers that be in Hudson do the obvious and cover the holes in the Dunn warehouse roof with tarps ? the City needs to stem further damage to the building as it stands.
ReplyDeleteHudson has a competent Municipal Buildings Dept that can cover over the holes and do so economically.
we need the Mayor to order temporary repairs -- isnt that pretty simple ??
If I was homeless, it looks like good shelter to me. What are the priorities - historic preservation/ property values, or people? It never ends. Nature wins always - maybe some cute critters are getting some nice warm shelter, i hope. Thanks, John Kane, yes, let's try a little harder to help those in our community who are really struggling, and stop worrying about high end restaurants/historic preservation as the savior.
ReplyDeleteHudson very clearly has facilities to shelter AND feed the homeless. The homeless however often refuse help due to mental illness or a drugged condition. It’s a complex problem.
ReplyDeleteKayak launch, docks and parking all on the sunny side of Warren.
ReplyDeleteEnable a co-op of volunteers to store their kayaks and canoes there and observe the commerce created by the free flow of people "through" shore.
A bunch of decrepit shacks many want to see salvaged and turned into some sort of museum. An old brick building (without much character externally) also decaying by the day. And talk talk talk about plans, ideas, and hopes. Soon it will be too late for both of these "projects." Am I leaving out any other old-building "talk projects?"
ReplyDeleteWhy should hundreds of County Motor Boaters pay for new Landlubber's use?
ReplyDeleteIn most corruption cases one has to show "where the money went." Here in Hudson, after 60 years of misappropriated Motorboat Fuel Taxes, the absence of motorboat facilities explains everything.
ReplyDeleteAt North Dock and the state slip there are no docks to use. At Rick's point no slip, dock there and you have to walk back to the state launch to get your vehicle.
In this dirty little berg, the county people paying for "improved" river access continue to suffer from highly paid, ineffective waterfront developers.
