The Ubiquitous Stewart's Shops

On January 15, the Albany Business Review reported on Stewart's "aggressive expansion plan" for 2020: "Stewart's to spend nearly $70 million on new stores, warehouse expansion this year." The article revealed that ten new stores are planned but gave no information about where those new stores would be located. Now, thanks to a sharp-eyed Gossips reader, we know the location of one of the ten proposed stores: at the corner of West Bridge Street and West Main Street in Catskill.

Last week, 98.5 The Cat published a message from Craig Rameley of Mountain T-Shirts, which begins: "As you may have heard, Mountain T-Shirts is currently in negotiations with Stewart's Shops for the potential sale of our lot and building at 8 W. Bridge St."

The Gossips post that shared the information about Stewart's plans for expansion concluded with this thought: "One wonders what impact this will have on the fabric and character of the ten communities where the new stores will be built." In the case of this location in the Village of Catskill, it won't be good.
