Eye About Town

Earlier today, a reader sent me a picture of a backhoe at work in the vicinity of the Depot District, near the site of one of the proposed apartment buildings, and wondered what was going on. A query to Walter Chatham, the architect for the project, provided the answer.

The digging is related to creating an access road to service the Upper Depot Brewing Co., which will occupy the newly restored train station. The new road follows the route of Rope Alley were it to extend east beyond Seventh Street.

  1. Why is there a need for an entrance on little 7th street? There is already going to be one on State, adjacent the brewery and it is much wider. Who the heck needs to enter from or exit to 7th? Oh, sorry, this is located in Galvanville/the Depot District - Galvan can do whatever they want and City Hall won't question it. Now I see why this is happening.

    1. Did you forget they are going to build a giant apartment building there? They will need access for their large excavators etc. It's a bit late for complaining now.

  2. Rope alley will become a very busy alley.
