If you are still adapting to the time change that happened on Sunday, take heart. This could be the last time you have to do it. The Senate has unanimously passed the Sunshine Protection Act to make daylight saving time permanent throughout the country. The bill still needs to pass in the House of Representatives and be signed by President Biden, but if successful, it will mean the end to depressingly early afternoon darkness in winter. You can read more about it in the Boston Globe: "Senate passes bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent."
Careful what you wish for ! We will see how everyone likes 8-8:30 AM sunrises. We tried this before in 1973-74 during the energy crisis. I vividly recall standing in the vestibules of Basen's Cigar Store, Sutty's and other stores in the 700 block of Warren Street patiently awaiting the arrival of the school bus under pitch dark skies. What is gained on one end is lost on the other. On a positive note it was nice to see a truly bipartisan vote on the Senate floor.
