News on a Really Long Holiday Weekend

Gossips just received this press release from the Hudson Police Department. Long Alley, which figures in the report, runs between Columbia and State streets.
On Sunday, July 2, 2023, at approximately 5:42 p.m., the Hudson City Police Department received a call from a citizen requesting Police respond to the area of North 5th Street, within the City of Hudson. HPD dispatch could hear yelling in the background and then the caller disconnected.
HPD Patrol Units responded immediately to the area and reported a large fight in progress at North 5th Street and Long Alley. Patrol located an injured subject, a 35-year-old male, with a stab wound to his chest. The victim was reportedly stabbed with a knife. The subject was transported by Greenport Rescue Squad to Albany Medical Center.
The suspect was not immediately identified when police arrived on the scene. HPD Detectives are currently investigating this felony assault.
Police interviewed several witnesses that were in the area at the time of the stabbing incident; at this time no parties have cooperated with Police. This was an isolated incident involving an ongoing issue between two subjects within the same family.
Police are currently still investigating the above incident. If anyone has any further information they would like to share with the Police, please contact the Hudson City Police Department, Detective Division, at (518) 828-3388.
The New York State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office assisted HPD on this investigation. The victim is in stable condition at this time. Felony charges will be forthcoming soon.

  1. Loitering in front of the D&D deli (if that's what it is still called) on N. 5th has returned. I passed by a group of 6 young males there on Saturday, and it was uncomfortable for me. The last thing I want to do is ask any of them to get out of my way or even make eye contact. Loitering was a constant at DnD, then they closed a few years ago and of course the loitering disappeared. Now both are back. DnD has always tolerated the loitering too much, as have the police. We all deserve better.

  2. I'm not really sure what is more disturbing, the fact that the stabbing happened, the fact that this was between two members of the same family or the fact that nobody wants to speak up. It's sad to think that we should be thankful that nobody else was hurt and that guns weren't involved.
