Steve Barnes reports in the Times Union today about the closing of Hudson Valley Fisheries: "Steelhead farm Hudson Valley Fisheries abruptly closes." In the article, the closing is attributed to "financial instability." The following is quoted from the article:
A statement from Hudson Valley Fisheries to the Times Union on Monday said multiple factors contributed to the closure decision, including inadequate water supply and higher prices from fuel costs and tariffs that made it financially unsustainable to continue doing business.
I would treat statements from HVF in this article with extreme caution. They also state: “[O]ngoing delays in securing additional water capacity through a dedicated water line have prevented the company from increasing fish production, expanding operations, and achieving long-term profitability.”
ReplyDeleteThat is a lie designed to deflect away from the fact that the fish farm was in an agreement with the Town of Greenport in 2015 to make available to the town $200k for the construction of a water pipeline from the Greenport south wells to the fish farm site.
This was an agreement that John Porreca had drafted and it was signed by HVF. It would have delivered plenty of unchlorinated water to the fish farm.
Shortly after signing, HVF is suspected to have made a timely donation of $9k to Porreca's opponent in the 2015 election, Ed Nabozny.
Nabozny narrowly won the November election in 2015, never followed up on this agreement and thus it went up in vapor.
