  3. Tom should go. Not Peter.
If the HPC had a spine (or a clue) this would have never happened.

  4. There is a deal that the siding will be removed in 50 years ? First I've heard of that one ! Lets see, my 1 year old would be 51 by then and I'll be dead. What a great comfort you send Anon.

  5. There is no such deal, Anonymous, so far as I know. I have heard that parishioners of the church are saying it will last for fifty years, which suggests to me that the vinyl siding contractor was making that claim, but I don't imagine that many of them will still be around to see if the claim is true.

The notion suggested by an earlier Anonymous that the action was preserving the church for the future is just plain silly. The church board never bothered to analyze why the paint was failing, so they may be hiding a moisture problem that will just get worse under the vinyl.

  6. A plastic covered church. Not fitting for an old historic wooden building which has survived all these years. How insensitive can people be.
    It looks awful.

  7. How insensitive can people be. THAT's a comment to be considered. Not one of these posters have mentioned that this is A HOUSE of GOD (Heard of Him?) first and a pretty building second. And by the way, since so many of the posters seem to have so much time to pick and criticize, I didn;t read a single post suggesting you all get together, buy the paint bruishes and hte paint and paint the building yourselves. You're right. How insensitive people can be.

  8. Anonymous: I am quite certain that the people who built this church in 1893 consciously did their work for the glory of God. I seriously doubt that the workers installing the vinyl siding are doing the same.

And, you know, money doesn't seem to have been the issue. According to various reports, somewhere between $60,000 and $78,000 is being spent to cover the church in vinyl siding.

  9. Anon 6:16pm - Vinyl'ing that church is doing the Devils Bidding!! Erasing God's glory is insensitive, and your being insincere if you think this is anything but insensitive to what brought Hudson back from the brink of hell- HISTORIC PRESERVATION. But by the power and perseverance of Lucifer will the ignorant and ignoble drag Hudson back to the pits of despair!
