Of Interest

Tom Casey has an article in today's Register-Star about the emergency and transitional housing facility being proposed for State and Seventh streets: "For city, shelter plan's a mixed bag." Although the headline suggests the article will contain some dissimilar views, it quotes only people who favor the plan: Mayor William Hallenbeck, who supports the plan and wants a "seat at the table" as it moves forward; Richard Scalera, Fifth Ward supervisor and special adviser to the Galvan Initiatives Foundation, who has been promoting the plan all along; and Laila Frank, who lives across the street from the proposed facility and thinks "we need to start being human [to one another]." (That last sentiment makes the pedant in me wonder why the adjective humane seems to be disappearing from the American vocabulary.)
