About Those Monster Power Lines

The Hudson Valley Smart Energy Coalition (HVSEC) reports that, at its scheduled meeting today, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) moved to seek more information on the need for the proposed power line expansion through the Hudson Valley. Unfortunately, the PSC stopped short of suspending further consideration of the project until it can be demonstrated conclusively that the transmission upgrades are needed and that the benefits outweigh the costs. The PSC is asking project developers to provide more information on their view of the need and will hold a technical conference on the issue of need in June 2015. The conference, however, is not expected to be an opportunity for formal participants in the process to challenge the assertions about need and cost-benefit. Click here to read the HVSEC's complete statement about the latest development, which comes in the wake of strong public opposition to the new power lines and a slew of information that calls into question the need for the proposed upgrades.
