Share Your Views

Now through July, the Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) is asking people to share the scenic views they enjoy most in Columbia County by adding them to CLC's online Scenic Views Mapper. The views can be any part of the landscape--the river, rolling hills, a winding stream, large vistas, a historic hamlet--but all views must be visible from a public road, trail, park, or other public location.

You can access the Mapper here. The following instructions for How to Use the Mapper are provided by CLC:
  1. Find your location (zoom in, or if using a mobile device, you can also enter a location or use your present location);
  2. Click the Edit Icon, then select the Flag;
  3. Click your map location to pin it there;
  4. Enter your view information in the box, and please attach a photo;
  5. Close the box by clicking the 'x' in the top right corner--your view will be recorded!
The Scenic Views Mapper is a collaborative effort of CLC and the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program. The result will be a "crowd-sourced" map of scenic locations throughout Columbia County. Financial support for the project comes from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's Hudson River Estuary Program, the Hudson Valley National Heritage Area, and the Hudson River Valley Greenway. To learn more about the project, visit the CLC website.
