The Sound of Gunshots in the Night

Last night, at around 2 a.m., someone posted the news on Facebook that shots had been fired in front of the Savoia, in the 200 block of Warren Street. At 8:15 a.m., while on my morning walk with Joey, I encountered three Hudson police officers, searching the area across the street from the Savoia. They confirmed that two shots had been fired in the early morning and assured me that they had the gun and the person who had fired it. At the time I encountered them, the officers were searching the area for shell casings. That done, they interviewed people in the neighboring houses.

The incident brings to mind the controversy last fall over the suggestion that all bars in Hudson be required to close at 2 a.m. The discussion was sparked by a shooting that took place in the wee hours of the morning at First and Warren streets. The victim of that shooting was alleged to have been drinking at the Savoia.

  1. From Gossips:

"Once again, Hudson is among "America's Coolest Small Towns." In a list of ten, Hudson is No. 3."

Prediction: The summer of 2015 will be one of the hottest on record for "cool" Hudson.

  3. These are the same issues that they had when the former Maxies on Front St and the old Halfmoon at a time were hosting late night hip hop parties, etc back in the early 2000's. Constant issues with fights, stabbings and gunshots. When both those places shut down at around the same time, because of these same issues, the certain crowd then moved on to the former Friar Tuck out on Rt 32 west of Catskill. Then on the first night over at the Friar Tuck, they had a stabbing and shooting over there. Same crowd and same issues. When those establishments closed at the same time, the problematic issues left back then as well. Now that the issues still continue with the same establishment on Warren St and until the SLA steps in and someone lays a fist down and means business, this garbage will continue. There is no reason other civilized establishments around this city should be penalized because of disorder caused by someone elses establishment hosting and feeding this nonsense. Look at the history back in the early 2000's. It is just an exact replay of the same issues. The solution is shut down the establishment (They already had multiple chances) and then the issues will go away. We are a 1st world nation and people need to act civilized.
