Dusk on the Waterfront

The picture below was taken at 8:10 p.m. yesterday. It shows diesel-powered tugboats pushing barges into place at Colarusso's dock, while Waterfront Wednesdays was winding down in the adjacent city park.

It's likely the Planning Board will soon resume its consideration of a conditional use permit for Colarusso's dock operations at the waterfront. We can only hope they bear images like this in mind and give serious consideration to the negative impacts of enabling the intensification of industrial activity on the waterfront.

  1. When tugs are idling there in the evening, the entire waterfront stinks of diesel fumes. But since our Planning Board members couldn't find the waterfront with a map, a compass, and a flashlight , I doubt that they will consider the impacts on the rest of us.

  2. Seems like the city was heading in the right direction and now it is being steered towards a cliff. It is the result of a general malaise and disinterest in local politics. It's like giving the keys to your new car to a ten year old and sending them out to Shoprite with a bag full of change to pick up your groceries.
