Meetings of Interest in the Week Ahead

In every month, there is one week that is chockablock with meetings. For the month of August, this is that week.
  • On Monday, August 19, the Hudson Housing Authority Board of Commissions meets at 6:00 p.m. As always, the meeting may be an opportunity to learn more about HHA's development plans. At the very least, it may provide confirmation of the "Open House with Work Session on Green Space" that was tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person in the Community Room at Bliss Towers, 41 North Second Street, and on Zoom.   • On Tuesday, August 20, the Planning Board holds a special meeting at 3:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to review the Environmental Assessment Form and make a negative declaration on Mill Street Lofts, the 70-unit apartment project proposed for the land on Mill Street that used to be Charles Williams Field. The meeting will take place in person at City Hall. It is not yet known if the meeting can be accessed remotely. 
Update: The Planning Board's special meeting will be in person only at City Hall.
  • Also on Tuesday, August 20, the Common Council Finance Committee meets at 5:15 p.m. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at City Hall and on Microsoft Teams. Click here for the link to join the meeting remotely.
  • At 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, the Common Council holds its regular monthly meeting. The agenda for the meeting includes a number of things of interest, including the resolution authorizing the purchase of payment stations to be used on sections of Warren Street that do not currently have parking meters.   • On Wednesday, August 21, the Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 6:00 p.m. The agenda for the meeting includes public hearings regarding area variances requested for Mill Street Lofts and State Street Lofts. The meeting takes place in person only at City Hall.
  • On Thursday, August 22, Hudson Community Development and Planning Agency (HCDPA) meets at 4:30 p.m. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at City Hall and on Microsoft Teams. Click here for the link to join the meeting remotely.
  • At 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, the Public Works Board, tasked with implementing the Sidewalk Improvement District, has its monthly meeting. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at City Hall and on Microsoft Teams. Click here for the link to join the meeting remotely.

  1. The City powers that be have already decided to install metered parking below Third St. Public input be damned.

    1. The plan is not actually for parking meters but rather, as I understand it, mobile payments made at pay kiosks using the vehicle's license plate number. There is some flexibility. The committee has discussed peak pricing and various things. There may actually be the capacity to exempt residents of the block from payment if they register, so it's not a completely done deal, and those affected should stay on top of this.

  2. You are correct Carole, they aren't parking meters. But the effect is the same, basically the total elimination of residential parking on Warren Street unless one wants to feed a mobile payment kiosk. Exempting residents through registering or even paying a fee would be acceptable but I don't see it being talked about. Parking pressure in Hudson is becoming a major quality of life problem.
