IMPORTANT UPDATE: Although you won't run the risk of getting a ticket by leaving your car on the even side of the street tonight, you will be making it impossible for the Department of Public Works to clean up that side of the street before the temperatures drop and what is now snow and slush turns to ice. On the request of DPW, Gossips urges readers to move their cars to the odd side of the street as soon as possible, so that DPW can clear the snow and slush on the even side.
Tomorrow is Presidents Day, one of the eight holidays on the eve of which alternative side of the street rules for overnight parking are suspended. The others are:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Thank you Carole.
ReplyDeleteThere are 11 or 12 federal holidays, but here in Hudson, unlike the rest of the civilized world, they only recognize 8 of them for free parking purposes. (Of course, City Hall is closed on every federal holiday!). Albany, Catskill, Ithaca, etc etc include ALL FEDERAL HOLIDAYS for free parking. The 8 holidays here in Hudson are ONLY listed deep in the city code where no one would think to look should they be curious. No Hudson resident should have to even attempt to memorize which federal holidays allow for free parking and which don't. It is a dis to all residents who park on the street or fill (or don't fill) parking meters. Dis, as in disrespectful and disturbing.
