Jumping Ship

Earlier this week, The Hudson Wail included this picture from last year's Flag Day parade in a post on Instagram.

It shows members of the Common Council, along with then newly appointed mayor's aide Justin Weaver, on the replica of The Hudson, the first ship to be built in Hudson. (The replica was built by the Department of Public Works in 1985 for the City's bicentennial celebration.) In the picture, the replica ship seems filled almost to capacity, with Council president Tom DePietro waving from an elevated seat at the back of the ship.

This year, there were far fewer people on the replica of The Hudson, only six to be exact: councilmembers Dewan Sarowar, Dominic Merante, Gary Purnhagen, Jennifer Belton, Margaret Morris, and Shershah Mizan.

DePietro jumped ship this year to ride in the passenger seat of this vintage tomato red convertible, which preceded The Hudson in the parade lineup.

  1. Is this post about Tom "sailing under false colours"? Or is it about Hudson being "adrift without a compass"?

Either way, looks like Kamal "missed the boat" for an Assembly run... and everyone is now "jumping ship", while he is stuck in the Horse Latitudes.

It is hard to keep up with all the scuttlebutt... Hudson needs more ballast... and a skilled Captain... before we drift into another squall of our own making.

A mutiny is stirring in all wards...

  2. 😂

The Common Council poking light-hearted fun at itself is a tradition worthwhile preserving in Hudson. Tom preferring American muscle as his conveyance this time around I'll allow.

To note: Once again, no representative of the third ward to be seen anywhere. As is the council, so goes Flag Day.

    2. And climbing on that float represents his greatest effort as an alderman.

  3. Yeah, where was the whale float this year? Is it shacked up with the Lil’ Deb’s stage?
