Late in the afternoon on Monday, the Amtrak Lake Shore Limited, originating in Chicago and bound for New York City, stopped here in Hudson. It was an emergency stop. There was a fire under the sleeper car, which filled the car with smoke. The Hudson Fire Department extinguished the fire, and an hour or so later, the train was on its way. This much was reported in the Register-Star later that day: "Burning debris stops Amtrak train in Hudson."
Eyewitnesses told Gossips that while the train was stopped in Hudson, Hudson police officers removed two people from the train and led them off in handcuffs. One eyewitness even provided Gossips with pictures, one of which appears below. How the two incidents--the fire and the removal of two passengers--were connected remained a mystery.
