Galloway Gallery: Exhibit 11

This is 354-356 Union Street--an apartment building that has been owned by Eric Galloway's "Hudson Preservation Group" for several years. Early on, there were rumors that Galloway wanted to remove the mansard roof and the third floor, but the rumors were never substantiated, and a proposal to do this has never been presented to the Historic Preservation Commission.

The building is currently unoccupied, as it has been for most of the time Galloway has owned it. From time to time, people characterized by one neighbor as "transients" have lived there, but their presence caused so many problems in the neighborhood that Galloway was persuaded to leave the building empty.

  1. Carole, I love the fact that this building was purchased for $300,000 on 7/15/04 and a full six years later, is currently assessed at $302,800. That's something like a point 9 percent increase over six years! Especially interesting when some of us have gotten assessment increases of over 150% in just one year! Umm. Oh Jeez, I'm so shocked.

Why single out Galloway for your assessment rage? The assessment roll is full of properties assessed far below the purchase price. Many many of them on East Allen.

  3. Well, Anonymous, the obvious answer to your question is that Peter was commenting on a post about one of Galloway's properties.
