Ear to the Ground

Gossips has learned that 410 Warren Street has new owners. The building, which in 1905 housed the business of M. E. Brennan, Undertaker and Embalmer, belonged most recently to Phil Gellert. It made the news in July 2011 when a dropped ceiling in the living room of an upstairs apartment fell, sending several people to the hospital. There were persistent rumors that Richard Cohen wanted to buy it so he could demolish it, as he did the building that once stood at 406 Warren Street, to clear the way for his oft proposed but yet to be realized hotel project. The expectation is that the new owners, who currently operate a business in rented space on Warren Street, may be at the Historic Preservation Commission meeting on Friday to tell about their plans for the building.
