Tonight in Hudson

My terrified-of-fireworks dog and I will be getting out of town tonight to escape the pyrotechnic extravaganza, but if you're up for in-your-face fireworks (they're launched from the Basilica Hudson parking lot), get yourself down to Basilica Hudson at 110 South Front Street for (Freak) Flag Day.

To quote the press release about the event: "Hudson's annual Flag Day celebrations are a David Lynch-Americana dream come true (and timed perfectly to coincide with the release of Twin Peaks). Cloaked by night and surrounded by colorful explosions, Basilica Hudson's (Freak) Flag Day is a freakier counterpart to the city's festivities, with performances and dancing into the early morning."

Basilica Hudson director and co-founder, Melissa Auf der Maur says of (Freak) Flag Day: "We are committed to doing this annual event in response to and in celebration of Flag Day. We are excited to participate in the dialogue of Hudson pride traditions, in our own Basilica way. There has been a great response to past incarnations of this event, by locals and visitors alike, celebrating the dynamic creative community of this region."

The event, for which there is a $5 admission fee (cash only), begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 2 a.m., with fireworks happening at dark, sharp. For more information, visit the Basilica Hudson website

  1. We will definitely get out of town next year. Tonight, our puppies were terrified for half an hour. Sounded like a war zone.
